For baptised Catholics marriage is one of the seven sacraments in which the Spirit of the Risen Lord is powerfully present.
A valid Catholic marriage in the eyes of the Church involves being married before a priest in a Catholic Church or Chapel. Deviation from this norm requires special permission.
