Pope’s encyclical proposes life ‘marked by the flavour of the Gospel’

Pope Francis has written his third encyclical entitled Fratelli tutti, On Fraternity and Social Friendship, which he addresses to all people of goodwill.

The encyclical was signed by the Holy Father during a recent (October 3, 2020) visit to the tomb of St Francis of Assisi, whose words inspired the document’s title.

The Holy Father offers the encyclical as a proposal for a way of life ‘marked by the flavour of the Gospel’. While the pope’s second encyclical, Laudato si, focused on our relationship with the natural world, Fratelli tutti encourages us to reflect on our relationships with each other.

‘I offer this social Encyclical as a modest contribution to continued reflection, in the hope that in the face of present-day attempts to eliminate or ignore others, we may prove capable of responding with a new vision of fraternity and social friendship that will not remain at the level of words.’
